121 road accidents reported on Awrudu Day, 14 deaths reported

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana today stated that 121 road accidents have been reported during the last 24 hours, and 14 deaths have also been reported.

A total of twelve accidents have been reported in expressways while 109 accidents had occurred in other roads.

Meanwhile, 10 deaths were reported yesterday in respect of accidents, while four deaths were reported due to sustaining injuries from previous road accidents.

Further, 74 injured persons were reported and 53 motorcycles and 30 three-wheelers were found to have been involved in road accidents.

Sri Lanka Police have arrested 758 drunk drivers within the period of the last 24 hours. 

The Police Spokesman stated that the police bail will not be granted to drunk drivers and the vehicle will also not be given bail. They would be produced before the Magistrate Court.

They will also be fined Rs. 25,000/- and the driving licenses will be suspended or cancelled.
