According to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's national policy statement, 183 out of 1,074 Samurdhi Banks island wide have been computerized, the government said. The computerization of 86 Samurdhi Banks in the Gampaha District is currently in progress. The computerization of 20 of them has been completed. The first computerized Samurdhi Bank in the Gampaha District was opened yesterday (08). The Minuwangoda Yagodamulla Samurdhi Bank was opened by Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga. Minister Ranatunga stated that the computerization of Samurdhi banks is being done for the convenience of 1.7 million Samurdhi beneficiaries. He also pointed out that the present government is working to strengthen the Samurdhi movement which was abandoned to die by the previous government. A project to identify and empower 200,000 Samurdhi families has also been launched. A loan relief programme for entrepreneurs through the Samurdhi movement is now in operation. The Minister said that the construction of houses under the Saubhagya Housing Project is also being implemented at present. District Secretary Sunil Jayalath and Minuwangoda Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Kumara Arangalla also participated in the meeting.
