20th Amendment vote : Unable to act against errant MPs: ACMC

11 Nov 2020

By Maheesha Mudugamuwa The All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), led by MP Rishad Bathiudeen, has informed the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) that the party is unable to take any decision with regard to the conduct of several of its parliamentarians who voted in favour of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution last month. In the letter written by ACMC General secretary S. Subairdeen, it is stated that the political authority of the party is either handicapped or unable to take any decision with regard to the conduct of the said parliamentarians at this juncture, in view of the fact that the Leader of the ACMC is unavailable to preside over the politburo meeting to deliberate on the matter due to him being incarcerated over a court case. The party has also informed the SJB that it would inform a decision soon after its Leader is released. Several members of SJB voted in favour of the 20th Amendment and the SJB was urged to take action against those members last month.
