By Skandha GunasekaraSome 21 containers were returned to the UK after it arrived illegally in Sri Lanka in 2017 carrying municipal waste.Superintendent of Customs Lal Weerakoon said the containers were shipped back to their country of origin on Saturday evening (26). “Twenty-one containers were shipped back to England at around 5 p.m. on Saturday.” He said a total of 263 containers arrived from the UK in 2017 with similar issues but only 21 were re-exported.“There is an ongoing court case over the remaining containers. As such, these can only be sent back through a court order.”
