29 Navy personnel at the Welisara Navy base have tested positive for Covid-19 today (23).
The Navy personnel are suspected to have had contracted the virus during a search for a group who had evaded self-quarantine in Suduwella Ja-Ela recently.
The 29 cases were detected after PCR tests were run on Navy officials at the Welisara Navy base.
The tests were conducted after a Navy officer had tested positive for Covid-19 at the Welikanda Hospital yesterday (22).
In total 30 Navy officers have contracted the virus.
The Welisara Navy base has been declared an isolated area and all officials have been subject to quarantine.
