2nd Test to go ahead in Kandy as planned

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) stated on Tuesday, 6 November that the second Test to be played between Sri Lanka and England will go ahead as planned in Pallekele ‘despite early concerns of shifting the match to Colombo owing to an issue cropped up pertaining to reservation of hotel rooms for the players and match officials.’

Following intervention of the Minister of Sports Faiszer Musthapha to resolve the matter and after successful discussions between the management of the Earls Regency Hotel and the Sports Minister, with the intention of accommodating the two national teams and match officials at Earls Regency in consideration of the national importance of the event, the hotel with the consent of the guests has taken steps to re-accommodate them to star hotels in the vicinity which consist of similar amenities, SLC said.

SLC further said:

In addition, SLC and the hotel have decided to offer as compensation variety of services and privileges to the esteemed guests who have been deprived the stay at Earls Regency due to the aforementioned reason.

Further, SLC wishes to convey its heartfelt gratitude and courteous thanks to the management of Earls Regency for the support and assistance extended in this regard and the Minister of Provincial Council, Local Government and Sports for his timely intervention to avoid a crisis.
