2nd Youth Test: SL in box seat

By Ishani Upatharitha Sri Lanka Under-19 are now leading the visiting Bangladesh U-19 by 219 runs with seven wickets in hand after day two of the second Youth Test between the two countries being played at the Marians Ground, Katunayake on Wednesday, October 24. Sri Lanka U-19 won toss were bowled out for 226 in their first-innings. [caption id="attachment_9597" align="alignleft" width="357"] Navod Paranavithana who struck 79 and 36 in the two innings[/caption] Opener Navod Paranavithana and No.3 bat Kamil Mishara made 115 runs for the second wicket. Paranavithana scored 79 runs in 153 balls with nine boundaries. Mishara struck 52 in 96 balls with seven fours. Navin Fernando (20 n.o.) and Rohan Sanjaya (14) made a significant 31 runs for the last wicket. Right-arm medium paceman Shahin Alam took five wickets for 37 runs while Mohammad Mrittunjoy took three for 52. Bangladesh reply – Bangladesh U-19 were bowled out for a paltry 109 in 36 overs. Opener Hasan Tamim made 50 runs in 55 balls with five boundaries. Openers Tamim and Sajid Hossain scored 77 runs. Left-arm leg-spinner Rohan Sanjaya and right-arm off-spinner Ashen Daniel shared 10 wickets for 32 runs for the hosts. Sanjaya took five for 17 while Daniel took five for 37 runs. Paranavitharana and skipper Nipun Dananjaya made 47 runs for the first-wicket. Paranavitharana scored  36. Rakibul Hasan took two for 42 runs. The four-day match will be continued on its day three on Thursday, 25 October. The series - Bangladesh won the first Youth Test by a close 13 runs at NCC, Colombo on 19 October. The two teams will engage in five Youth ODIs in Dambulla and Katunayake from 30 October to 9 November.
