The Asian Development Bank (ADB), which has informed that supporting the Government of Sri Lanka’s (GoSL) Covid-19 vaccination programme would be among its top priorities for this year, also expressed its support for the Government’s effort to host the ADB’s 55th Annual Meeting in Colombo, in May 2022.
On 18 October 2019, the ADB Board of Governors approved the GoSL’s offer to host the ADB’s 55th Annual Meeting in Colombo from 2-5 May 2022.
According to the ADB, Resolution Number 402 was adopted on 20 November 2019, to hold the 54th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors this year in Tbilisi, Georgia, and the 55th Annual Meeting to be held in 2022 in Colombo.
Senior External Relations Officer at the ADB Resident Mission Roshani Yogarajah told The Sunday Morning that, as the host country, the GoSL is taking a lead in preparing the ADB’s Annual Meeting.
She added that supporting the Government’s Covid-19 vaccination programme is one of the top priorities for the ADB this year.
“We trust that this effort will contribute to Sri Lanka’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. The ADB stands ready to support the Government in the vaccination programme, together with other development partners,” she said.
She further noted that the ADB ensures that both social inclusion and economic growth are addressed through its interventions across many sectors.
The overall active portfolio of the ADB’s assistance to Sri Lanka is $ 4.5 billion with 33 projects in the energy, transport, agriculture, natural resources, urban, finance, education, health, and private sectors.
In early February, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal to formulate necessary action to conduct the ADB's Annual Summit in Sri Lanka, in May 2022. Approximately, 4,000 participants are scheduled to attend the summit, including 30 ministers of finance from member countries.
