Lanka Premier League 2022’s player draft was held yesterday (5). All five clubs – Jaffna Kings, Galle Gladiators, Dambulla Giants, Colombo Stars, and Kandy Warriors – submitted their full list of retained players and direct signings for the upcoming season before 5 July, and squads in this article are updated to the time when the paper was sent to print.
Lanka Premier League season 3 will begin on 31 July 2022, and is scheduled to be played at the R. Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo, and Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.
The five franchises were allowed to retain six players, four local and two foreign, from the previous season’s squad. They were also allowed to directly sign two local and two foreign players ahead of the player draft.
Jaffna Kings secured two brilliant direct signings in teen prodigy Dunith Wellalage and batting all-rounder Dhananjaya De Silva, along with South African Hardus Vilojen and explosive West Indian batter Evin Lewis.
Dambulla Giants have also mange two crucial direct signings in explosive Bhanuka Rajapaksa and experienced Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting.
Galle Gladiators secured seamer Dushmantha Chameera, wrist-spinner Lakshan Sandakan, and Pakistani all-rounders in Faheem Ashraf and Imad Wasim.
The Hill Country franchise landed the big fish Wanindu Hasaranga along with all rounder Chamika Karunaratne. They also made two international direct signings in West Indian all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite and Australian spinner Chris Green.
Colombo Stars secured Charith Asalanka and wicket-keeper batter Niroshan Dickwella as direct local signings while South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius joins as foreign direct signing.
