Talk of an impending Cabinet reshuffle has been making the rounds among political circles for over a month. However, the recent passage of the 22nd Amendment Bill in the House has once again resulted in rumours of a Cabinet reshuffle taking place either before or soon after the 2023 Budget presentation in Parliament next month.
It is in such a backdrop that a senior Government Minister had reportedly met with United National Party (UNP) Chairman, MP Vajira Abeywardena recently to discuss the impending Cabinet reshuffle.
“There’s a strong rumour that the Cabinet reshuffle will be carried out soon. Please help me retain my current portfolio,” the Minister had said, requesting Abeywardena’s intervention in the matter.
However, Abeywardena, while reassuring the Minister by saying that he would look into the matter, had smiled and added: “You are talking of retaining your portfolio. I have also been promised a portfolio for over a month now.”
