A more suitable constitution will be brought in the near future: Gammanpila

Udaya Prabhath Gammanpila, Minister of Energy stated in Parliament today (22) that a new constitution that embodies the aspirations of the people which suits the country will be brought in the near future. He was addressing the second day of the 20th Amendment Parliamentary Debate. For the first time in history, the people voted to amend the 19th Amendment and bring in a new constitution by giving it a 2/3 majority under the proportional representation system. The Minister also said that the government stands for the protection of positive features such as the guarantee of the right to know. He said that the consequences of the 19th Amendment had been evident in what had happened in the country from 2015 to 2019 and that national security and the country's economy had collapsed due to drug trafficking and the conflict between the former President and the former Prime Minister.
