A one-of-a-kind wedding for this couple!

27 May 2020

Annalan Navaratnam, 30, and Jann Tipping, 34, who had to cancel their wedding due the Covid-19 pandemic, tied the knot in the Grade II-listed chapel at London's St Thomas' Hospital, where they both work.  Navaratnam, who is of Sri Lankan origin, is an acute medical registrar and has been working at St Thomas' for a year. He said they were "so happy that we have been able to commit ourselves to one another", recalling their special day on 24 April.  Cancelling their original plans to wed in August, the couple from Tulse Hill in south London, shared that they decided to have the ceremony “while everyone was still healthy”. The couple also feared their families would not be able to travel safely from Northern Ireland and Sri Lanka for the big day.  Tipping, an ambulatory emergency nurse, commented that the wedding was “intimate” and “lovely” and they "wanted to make sure we could celebrate while we were all still able to even if it meant our loved ones having to watch us on a screen". A virtual drinks reception, including a first dance and speeches, was hosted by the newlyweds.
