An individual had recently telephoned the Presidential Secretariat claiming that he was in possession of a Buddha statue and several books that had been removed from President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence in Colpetty when it was set on fire on 9 July.
The individual had stated that he was in possession of a Buddha statue and some books from the President’s residence and that he wanted to return them to the authorities, since having them in his possession had caused him much fear.
After being informed of the telephone call, President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake had informed the details to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigations into the matter.
