A shipment of 1.4 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines are expected next week and priority is to be given to administering the second dose to the individuals who had already received the first dose, The Morning learnt.
It is also learnt that the shipment is tentatively expected to arrive in the country on Thursday (15).
Highly placed sources told The Morning that as soon as the shipment is received, the second dose vaccines would be administered with the assistance of the military within two to three days.
Sources also told The Morning that after the second dose jab roll out is completed, the rest of the AstraZeneca vaccines would be administered in the Kegalle District.
“The decision to administer vaccines other than Sinopharm in areas outside of Colombo is to ensure that there is equality when administering the Covid 19 vaccines,” sources said.
