AG instructs arrest of former Welikada Police OIC over Patali's case

The Attorney General (AG) has instructed the CCD to obtain a warrant & arrest former OIC of Welikada Police over former MP Patali Champika Ranawaka's accident case. AG's Coordinating officer State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said instruction have been given by the AG to arrest Ranawaka on charges of fabricating false evidence. Ranawaka's 2016 road accident case was re-opened after two youth had come forward to provide evidence regarding the incident. A youth was injured when his motor cycle collided with a vehicle reported to be owned by Ranawaka on 28 February 2016. In June 2016, the Colombo Additional Magistrate Chandana Kalansooriya said due to insufficient evidence, Ranawaka could not pronounced a suspect. However the Minister’s driver was named a suspect in the case. According to the Police, CCTV footage of the accident was found to have been erased.
