AG requests CJ to appoint trial at bar againsts six suspects accused of involvement in Easter Sunday attacks

The Chief Justice (CJ) has been requested by the Attorney General (AG) to appoint a trial at bar in order to try six suspects involved in the Easter Sunday attacks. Accordingly, Mohammed Mufees, Mohammed Hamas, Ibrahim Mohammed Naufar, Mohammed Sajid, Ibrahim Sadeeq Abdullah and Gaffoor Mama will be tried by the trial at bar. Now deceased Zahran Hashim and Mohammed Hasthun are also named to be tried. Indictments have also been filed at the Puttalam High Court against the six suspects by the AG with regard to the collection of explosives and maintenance of an explosive manufacturing base in Wanathawilluwa in January 2019. These indictments have been filed under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and the Terrorist Financing Act.
