AG requests trial at bar over journalist Prageeth’s case

The Attorney General requested the Chief Justice to appoint a trial at bar at the Homagama High Court to try the accused in journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda’s abduction and murder case. Yesterday, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said it had handed over the final investigation reports to the AG’s Department focusing on 12 suspects involved in Eknaligoda's abduction and disappearance. The AG said the accused could be charged under eight counts for violating the Penal Code. Ekneligoda was abducted on 24 January 2010, two days prior to the 2010 presidential election, in which former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Army Commander, General Sarath Fonseka were contesting.
