01 Dec 2020

By Maheesha Mudugamuwa Although there are 25 District Directors of Agriculture serving in the district secretariats, and despite nearly a thousand officers who are paid by the Ministry of Agriculture are on duty under them, in many instances they do not perform duties related to agriculture, except for the deployment in various duties, Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage revealed yesterday (30). At a special discussion held with the District Officers of the Department of Agriculture, who were summoned to the Ministry of Agriculture, Aluthgamage instructed the Ministry Secretary to issue a list of duties to those officers immediately, emphasising that it should be kept in mind that it is the responsibility of all officials to stop bureaucracy and tug of war, and work for the betterment of the people. Aluthgamage also said that it was the fault of the top officials for not making the best use out of the nearly thousand officials so far.
