The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has agreed to grant the ‘Sri Lanka COVID-19 Emergency and Crisis Response Facility’ to fund sectors such as tourism and apparel that are most affected by COVID-19 epidemic, the government said today.
It said the Cabinet of Ministers has yesterday approved the proposal to enter the relevant agreement for the implementation of this project.
Under this project, sectors such as tourism, apparel, construction, trade, manufacturing, agricultural exports and healthcare will be funded, as they were the industries most affected by the pandemic.
Accordingly, a project has been designed with the Bank of Ceylon and the People’s Bank to use this facility to enhance the liquidity facilities required for small and medium enterprises in these sectors.
Further, two loans worth US $90 million each will be provided to the BOC and the People’s Bank under the project and the banks will facilitate their clients of the relevant industries.AIIB grant facility to fund sectors affected by COVID-19 in SL
