Sri Lanka Air Force won the men’s and women’s Munchee National Volleyball Championship titles on Sunday (28 August) at the National Youth Services Council Indoor Stadium, Maharagama.
The Sri Lanka Air Force men’s team were up against Ceylon Electricity Board in the super league men’s final which took centre stage on Sunday. The Airmen secured the title in straight sets despite a stern challenge from the soldiers. The scores read 26-25, 25-22, and 25-21 in favour of the Airmen.
The women’s super league final was played between Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Air Force. The match lasted only four games. In the first game, Army took the win by 25-17. The Airwomen returned strong in the second game taking the win by 25-21. Air Force held off Army in the third game to win it by 25-23. The fourth round was easily won (25-20) by the Airwomen to seal the championship.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Roshan Ranasinghe was present to witness the game as the Chief Guest.
