The Air Quality Unit of the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has recorded moderate levels of pollution over Colombo with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 65 as of yesterday (10).
The air quality forecast until Sunday (14) predicts that the ambient air quality for Colombo would remain at 67-89 AQI.
AQI readings of 51-100 are considered to be acceptable. However, moderate health concerns would occur for a very small number of people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution. Active children and adults as well as people with respiratory diseases such as asthma are required to limit prolonged outdoor exertion.
