The oil samples obtained from three companies that imported substandard coconut oil allegedly containing Aflatoxins, had failed the second quality tests conducted today, the Director General of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) Siddhika G Senaratne said.
It has been re-confirmed that these samples contain carcinogenic toxic chemicals.
The SLSI said that the coconut oil samples were tested and re-confirmed to contain a toxic chemical called aflatoxin.
These tests were carried out by the SLSI, the Food Safety Unit of the Ministry of Health, and the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI).
Meanwhile, another company that imported unrefined coconut oil containing the carcinogen Aflatoxin has failed its second quality test as well yesterday, the SLSI stated.
Accordingly, the company will have to re-export the relevant oil stocks.
Several companies are currently re-testing samples of imported unrefined coconut oil containing the potent carcinogen Aflatoxin.
