Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa stated that as the Opposition Leader, he considers every issue faced by the public a national issue.
Even though many view the Opposition Party as a party that causes issues, mainly due to the fact that the Opposition Party often opposes various matters, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is different from other parties, Premadasa said while speaking at a public meeting in Okkampitiya on Saturday (16).
He went on to say: “We opposed the wrong things done by the Government. Even though we are a small party, we carry out democratic struggles in an organised manner. But, at the same time, the SJB has realised that the Opposition Party’s duty is not limited to expressing opposition to various things or creating issues, but rather giving solutions to the public and discussing the public’s burning issues. We also make sure that the public’s issues are at the top of our political agenda.”
He also said that even though some, especially rivals, claim that the Opposition Leader’s duty is to talk about national-level issues while others must talk about provincial-level issues, the main Opposition Party led by him does not label issues as national or provincial-level issues. “At the end of the day, people’s hardships are national issues,” he emphasised.
