All parliamentarians representing the joint opposition (JO) are scheduled to meet this evening (10) under the patronage of former President MP Mahinda Rajapaksa to discuss the future political actions.
The decision to hold the meeting today was taken after the SLFP MPs in the joint opposition held a meeting with Rajapaksa last evening.
The meeting last evening had focused on the possibility of the joint opposition assuming power and forming a caretaker government with President Maithripala Sirisena in order to summon an early general election.
However, Rajapaksa has said that joint opposition MPs representing political parties other than the SLFP should also be involved in the discussion and decided that a meeting should be convened this evening.
