23 Jul 2020

Sri Lanka Police stated that the last batch of narcotic drugs seized during raids conducted by the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) which were to be handed over to the Government Analyst’s Department was handed over on Monday (20). Speaking to The Morning, Police Media Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senaratne said the samples from the PNB’s drug evidence storage had been handed over recently for the ongoing investigations. Accordingly, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) handed over more than 320 kg of heroin and ice (methamphetamine) seized by the PNB during raids, to the Government Analyst’s Department on Monday (20) to determine whether the composition of the relevant drugs had been changed. A total of 279 kg and 500 g of heroin and 45 kg and 654 g of ice have been handed over in this manner. The Government Analyst’s Department is still conducting investigations focused on whether the drugs seized during the PNB raids and placed in storage pending legal processes, were tampered with or not.  Investigations are currently underway on several PNB officials arrested by the CID on allegations of drug trafficking.
