All schools to reopen all grades | Strict health guidelines imposed

20 Aug 2020

By Sarah Hannan The Ministry of Education decided to reopen all government schools and Government-approved private schools that were closed due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Schools were allowed to reopen for the second academic term under the condition that only half the students were allowed to attend classes in schools with below 200 students. “Schools can now reopen fully for all grades, even if there are over 200 students, as long as the guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19 are followed. “Students need to maintain physical distancing, and adequate classrooms and teachers need to be assigned when teaching the students,” Ministry of Education Secretary Prof. K.K.C.K Perera told The Morning. Necessary instructions to resume have been disseminated to the provincial chief secretaries, provincial secretaries of education, provincial directors of education, zonal directors of education, heads of environment, and principals.
