# The West Indies will host the 14th edition of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 World Cup for the first time

# The event which showcases the future stars of the game will see 16 teams travelling to the Caribbean to compete in 48 matches

# The tournament dates:

From Friday, 14 January to Saturday, 5 February 2022

# Four host countries:

* Antigua and Barbuda

* Guyana

* Saint Kitts and Nevis, and

* Trinidad and Tobago

# The 10 venues hosting matches:

* Saint Kitts and Nevis -

Warner Park Cricket Stadium, Conaree Cricket Center, and Sandy Point (warm-up matches only)

* Guyana -

Guyana National Stadium and Everest Cricket Club (warm-up matches only)

* Trinidad and Tobago -

Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Queens Park Oval, and Diego Martin Sporting Complex

* Antigua and Barbuda -

Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground and Coolidge Cricket Ground

# 16 participating countries:

* Host nation (1) - West Indies

* Qualified from previous World Cup (9) - Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe

* New Zealand which qualified from the previous World Cup withdrew from the tournament due to extensive mandatory quarantine restrictions for minors on their return home

* New Zealand was replaced by (1): Scotland

* Advanced from Regional Qualification (5) - Canada, Ireland, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Uganda, and United Arab Emirates (UAE)

# The format

* It would be the same as the previous editions, with the 16 teams competing to progress to the Plate and Super League phases of the tournament

* Matches will be held in the 50-over format

The 17-member Sri Lanka Under-19 cricket squad, which became runners-up in the Under-19 Asia Cup held in UAE last week, left for the West Indies straight from Dubai yesterday (2) to take part in the ICC U-19 men’s cricket World Cup 2022

The squad (17): Dunith Wellalage (Captain), Raveen De Silva (Vice Captain), Shevon Daniel, Anjala Bandara, Pawan Pathiraja, Sadisha Rajapaksa, Wanuja Kumara, Ranuda Somarathne, Malsha Tharupathi, Traveen Mathew, Yasiru Rodrigo, Matheesha Pathirana, Chamidu Wickramasinghe, Vinuja Ranpul, Sakuna Liyanage, Abhisheak Liyanaarachchi, and Sadeesh Jayawardena
