Alleged assault on autistic boy: Officers suspended for not arresting

 No evidence of assault: Police Spokesman By Skandha Gunasekara The three police officers who had allegedly assaulted an autistic teenager in Aluthgama have been suspended from duty for failing to arrest the teenager. “The officers failed to make the arrest. Instead, they had released him upon the father’s arrival. They had neglected their duty to write an entry about the arrest and therefore, they have been suspended,” Police Spokesman SP Jaliya Senaratne said. He added that an inquiry was in progress and that disciplinary action would be decided thereafter. He said that they would not be penalised for the assault as there was no such evidence. “The footage doesn’t show any form of assault. I too watched the footage. Yes, force was used, but there is no assault, he said. He went on to say that the police officers had not been aware of the boy’s autistic condition. “At the time of the incident, the officers could not determine that the boy was autistic. He had appeared to be under the influence of narcotics,” the Police Spokesman said.
