Alternative educational qualifications for JPs over 60

24 Sep 2020

It has been decided to consider alternative educational qualifications to the GCE Ordinary Level for the appointment of Justices of the Peace over the age of 60, said Ali Sabry, PC, Minister of Justice in Parliament today (24). In addition, the GCE Ordinary Level is to be considered as the minimum qualification for the appointment of Justice of the Peace under the age of 60. The Minister was responding to a question posed by Parliamentarian Shantha Bandara. He further stated that it was not appropriate to recruit Justices of the Peace on the basis of educational qualifications alone and that steps will be taken to choose those who have the time and commitment for social work.
