Aluthgamage responds to alleged assassination plot

07 Jan 2020

State Minister of Power Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that his parliamentary privileges have been violated following revelations of an alleged assassination attempt by former State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. Aluthgamage made this statement during the parliamentary session held today(7). A leaked audio clip purportedly between Ramanayake and Wickremesinghe surfaced on social media today. Ramanayake and Wickremesinghe are in conversation about a plan to cover-up a shot fired whilst Ramanayake was engaged in a practice session to shoot Aluthgamage. "This is a democratic parliament and we have all the right to speak about corruption. I represented the opposition during the Yahapalana Government and spoke about the Bond scam. Is this the repercussion one has to face when speaking in the parliament? "he said. He further noted that Ramanayake was acting upon instructions of Wickremesinghe and that the cabinet of the Yahapalana government was aware of the plot.
