09 Feb 2020

Power and Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera is to lodge a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over allegations levelled against him based on a speech made by Minister Johnston Fernando in Parliament on Friday (7). Denying media reports published yesterday that he purchased a vehicle worth Rs. 42 million while he was holding the office of Minister of Mahaweli Development, Amaraweera told The Sunday Morning that he had not purchased a vehicle while in office. He said that he will appeal to the CID to investigate the media reports. He further noted that the vehicle had been purchased before he assumed duties as the Minister of Mahaweli Development on 30 May 2017. Amaraweera also said that he would make a special statement in Parliament regarding the issue.
