Amended Finance Bill passed in Parliament

The third reading of the amended Finance Bill was passed in Parliament today without a vote. Following the second reading, the relevant bill was passed with 134 votes in favour and 44 against. Earlier, the Supreme Court ruled that if amendments are made to Articles 4(1), 5(1), 5(2), 5(3), 5(4), 5(5), 6(1), 7(1), 12B, 13(1), 14, 20 and if article 17 is completely omitted, it will be in accordance with Constitution. Nine petitions were filed against the Bill earlier, amidst mounting disapproval. MPs from the SJB and JVP, along with the Centre for Policy Alternatives were among those who filed petitions against it.
