following an investigation into principals of National Schools who collect excessive money from parents of students, Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has requested officials to submit a report on this issue.
Instructions were given to take strict disciplinary action against such principals, who unethically collect money from students, violating circulars under the guise of facility fees and service charges.
circulars have been issued by the Ministry stating the maximum limits for service charge and facility charge however, certain Principals of several National Schools are collecting money at their discretion, violating the circulars and guidelines.
The officials have been instructed to educate the public on the Emergency Hotline, 1988, to bring to notice complaints against principals charging money from students unlawfully, as well a final report after looking into this unlawful practice.
