Ave Maria Convent, Negombo schoolgirl Anjalika Kurera made a stupendous feat to emerge Sri Lanka tennis nationals women’s singles champion for the second time to establish her dominance, in this mostly elitist sport, whilst the corresponding men’s title went to Yasitha de Silva, the title defender, at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) hard courts in Colombo yesterday (20).
Kurera had won her inaugural nationals singles title in 2019. Kurera beat Janali Manamperi 6-3, 6-2 while De Silva got the better of first time men’s open singles finalist Chathurya Nilaweera 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, 6-4.
