Another 196 have tested positive for Covid-19 at the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre – East Kandakadu.
Yesterday, 56 persons from the centre tested positive for Covid-19.
After a female counsellor from Marawila tested positive from the lot, 45 of her contacts have been traced from Marawila and have been placed under self- quarantine.
Accordingly, a total of 252 from the centre have tested positive for the virus so far.
450 inmates and officials of the rehabilitation centre were tested for the coronavirus after an inmate at the Welikada Prison who was transferred from the rehabilitation centre tested positive for the virus.
The inmate had been at the rehabilitation centre for around 3 months before he was transferred to the Welikada Prison.
The Army Commander yesterday announced that the Kandakadu Quarantine Centre will be converted to a hospital to treat patients from the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre – East Kandakadu.
