Another 87 have tested positive for Covid-19 at the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre – East Kandakadu raising the total number of patients from the centre to 339.
After a female counsellor from Marawila tested positive from the lot, 45 of her contacts have been traced from Marawila and have been placed under self- quarantine.
Inmates and officials of the rehabilitation centre were tested for the coronavirus after an inmate at the Welikada Prison who was transferred from the rehabilitation centre tested positive for the virus.
The inmate had been at the rehabilitation centre for around 3 months before he was transferred to the Welikada Prison.
The Army Commander yesterday announced that the Kandakadu Quarantine Centre will be converted to a hospital to treat patients from the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre – East Kandakadu.
