Anuradhapura SLFPers want Party to contest independently at PC elections

15 Nov 2021

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Youth Front made a suggestion yesterday (14) that it would be ideal for SLFP members to contest independently as a Party at the upcoming Provincial Council elections. Secretary of the SLFP District Youth Front Saman Kumara made this proposal yesterday (14) during a Party meeting held at the SLFP District Office under the Chairmanship of State Minister Dissanayake to elect office bearers for the District Bhikku Front, Youth Front, Farmer Organisation, Teachers’ Front, Women’ Front and the affiliated organisations. State Minister of Solar Power, Wind and Hydro Power Generation Projects Development Duminda Dissanayake added that the SLFP supported the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) at the presidential election and the general election as well, but it had not received due recognition as expected. “If the SLFP sympathizers are of the opinion that the party should contest the next elections as a single party, the electoral organisers should be informed of that decision. The candidates to contest at the next Provincial Council Election should be selected after considering their eligibility” said Dissanayake. The suggestion was passed unanimously by the representatives of all organisations and members who were in attendance. In attendance at the meeting was Former Minister Tissa Karaliyedda and Parliamentarian Weerakumara Disanayake.
