Approve funerals of non-Covid bodies within 24 hours: Prez

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa instructed to approve the funerals of the non-Covid deceased within 24 hours for reasons taking into account the economic and severe hardships faced by the families of the deceased, the President's Media Division said. The President stated that PCR examination of non-Covid deaths has led to many allegations of delays in funerals. Although it was decided to remove the travel restrictions on June 14, it was decided to extend the travel restrictions until June 21 based on the data received that 101 deaths were reported on June 11. The President then elaborated on the data obtained by the Health and Intelligence Unit after a thorough investigation into the causes of these death. It was also revealed that some of the deaths occurred during the four month period from February 06 to June 11 and death certificates had been issued. Information on certain deaths was found to have been mentioned twice. The death toll on June 11 was not 101 but only 15, the President said. The President emphasized that accuracy and timeliness in the provision of data is essential for making the right decisions. It has been decided to relax the travel restrictions from 4 am on the 21st. However, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa instructed officials not to relax the travel restrictions imposed between provinces, the President's Media Division said. Travel restrictions will be reactivated as before, from 10 pm on June 23 to 4 am on June 25. Laws imposed on public gatherings will continue to be enforced in the same manner. Heads of institutions should ensure that institutions in both the public and private sectors are maintained under a limited number of employees. The President emphasized the need for all trade and economic operations to be carried out with the participation of a minimum number of people. This was stated by the President at a meeting of the Special Committee on the Suppression of Covid at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (18). So far, over 4 million vaccines have been imported, Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, Chairman of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation, said. He further stated that at least another 4 million more vaccines are expected to be received in July. Ministers Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Gamini Lokuge, Bandula Gunawardena, Keheliya Rambukwella, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Prasanna Ranatunga, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Ramesh Pathirana, Namal Rajapaksa, State Ministers Sudarshani Fernandopulle, President of Parliament, Channa Jayasuramana Secretary (Retired) Major General Specialist Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Commanders of the three Armed Forces and Heads of Health were also present on the occasion.
