Director General of the Archeology Department Anura Manatunga stated that a decision has been taken to name several archeological sites in the country as learning centers.
He stated that Rideegala Viharaya and Rajagala have already been designated as places of learning.
He further stated, “It was decided to name several archeological sites in Sri Lanka as teaching sites and use archeological sites as training centers for students. Out of these, we have already named Rajagala as an Archaeological Training Center with the permission of the Theras and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Apart from this, we hope to name several other places for archeological excavations, conservation and other activities.”
