The Department of Archeology is conducting investigations into the incident where the Sithulapawwa temple was recently defaced by treasure hunters.
So far, 7 suspects have been arrested along with 1 car and 1 safari jeep in relation to the loot of the ancient treasure. All suspects have been identified as residents of Tissamaharama.
The Department of Archeology has reopened the site in order to conduct repairs following the damages caused by the thieves, and to further continue the investigations into the matter.
