People residing in close proximity to the Bandaranaike International Airport have set up a checkpoint along the road leading to the airport.
Footage widely shared on social media depicts citizens stopping and looking into every passing vehicle.
The check point is said to be in operation to prevent Ministers and other public representatives from fleeing the country.
