Aren't public services part of the Government service, questions Workers’ Struggle Centre

23 Nov 2021

Workers’ Struggle Centre member Dhammika Munasinghe has demanded the State Ministry of Home Affairs to revoke the circular which mentioned that Public service workers are not Government employees. He made this statement while speaking at a media brief held yesterday (22). "The statement which was issued on the 5th of November states that Public service workers are not Government employees. After that, the Minister of Finance has mentioned the same. The statement mentions that public service workers cannot talk, voice their opinions and demand for rights as they are not part of the Government service. The statement also says that Public service employees are not part of the Government service, so we want to know where we belong," said Munasinghe. Munasinghe further demands that the circular be revoked and reminds the public that the public services employees cannot be silenced when treated unfairly. "We want the circular to be revoked. The workers cannot be silenced as this is our right. What we understand from the circular is that the State Ministry of Home Affairs does not consider public service workers as Government employees, and the only reason why this circular was issued was to silence the workers," he concluded.
