- Says considering requests made by SLFP & monks
- Notes voters shunning of political parties & instead preferring inde. candidates
Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Minister, President’s Counsel Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that he has received several requests urging him to run for the Presidency in the upcoming election.
Speaking to the media, he revealed that the majority of these requests came from members of the Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP). Additionally, religious leaders including Buddhist monks have sought the same, he claimed further.
Rajapakshe said that he would take into account these requests and arrive at a final decision in the coming weeks.
When queried if he intends to run for the Presidency independently, he said: “People have no trust in any of the political parties in the country. So, the upcoming Election will be very different, and crucial. People don’t cast their votes for political parties anymore, and they instead vote for the individual who contests the election.”
