NASA has selected a new crew of four volunteers, including a Sri Lankan, to participate in a simulated mission to Mars within a habitat at the agency’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.
NASA has chosen Piyumi Wijesekara, a postdoctoral research scientist in the Radiation Biophysics Laboratory at NASA Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley.
Accordingly, NASA announced that Jason Lee, Stephanie Navarro, Shareef Al Romaithi, and Piyumi Wijesekara will step into the agency’s Human Exploration Research Analog, or HERA, on 10 May.
Wijesekara and her team will spend 45 days living and working like astronauts at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston.
This mission aims to study how humans adapt to conditions similar to those of deep space missions, providing valuable insights for future space exploration endeavours.
