A 31-year-old resident of Wariyapola has been arrested for allegedly singing a distorted version of the popular New Year song "Soorya Mangalya" by Rohana Beddage and sharing it on social media.
The arrest came following a complaint received by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), which alleged that the song, typically aired during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, had been altered and disseminated on social media platforms.
Consequently, the North Western Province Unit of the Computer Crime Investigation Division (CCID) launched an investigation into the incident.
The suspect was apprehended on the 16th of this month and is set to appear before the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate’s Court today (17).
