Sri Lanka to establish regulatory body for Petroleum products

26 Apr 2024

Cabinet of Ministers has approved the creation of a committee to develop a comprehensive regulatory framework for the petroleum sector.

This framework will oversee the import, refining, distribution, and marketing of products like petrol, diesel, and (liquid petroleum gases) LPG.

Accordingly, the current system lacks a unified regulatory body, despite involving private companies.

The new framework aims to address industry challenges, improve product quality, and protect consumers, investors, and other stakeholders.
