A pregnant woman experiencing labor pains while on a boat en route to the hospital gave birth onboard the ferry near Nagadeepa.
Initially admitted to Nagadeepa Base Hospital, she was later transferred to Jaffna Teaching Hospital by ferry on doctors' advice.
Female passengers assisted her in delivering the child, with all men moved to the upper deck.
The mother and newborn were then transported to Kurikadduwan jetty and transferred to Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
Both mother and infant are reported to be in good health, according to reports.
