Asian Rugby 7s - Sri Lanka thrash China before routed by Japan

Sri Lanka recorded an easy 31-0 victory against a hapless China on Friday, 14 September in their opening match of the Asian Rugby Sevens, now being held in Hong Kong. [caption id="attachment_5608" align="alignleft" width="739"] Sri Lanka lost to Japan 21-0 on Friday.[/caption] Yet they lost to Japan in their next match 21-0, also Friday. Japan scored three goals for their win. If Sri Lanka are to qualify for the semi-finals of the Cup Championship of the Asian 7s in Hong Kong, they have to beat Chinese Taipei on Saturday. Kevin Dixon, skipper Srinath Sooriyabandara, Sudam Sooriyarachchi, Buddhima Piyarathne and Dinuk Amerasinghe scored tries for Sri Lanka in their opening match against China. Dixon, Sooriyabandara and Sooriyarachchi converted. Saturday is the final day of the two-day event. Eight counties are taking part in the tournament, being divided into two Pools.
