The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) told The Morning that the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine will be administered from today (28) to approximately 10,200 people who are over the age of 70 in the CMC area.
The CMC said that this vaccination programme would cover the areas from Colombo 1 to Colombo 15 over a period of four days at Sugathadasa Outdoor Stadium and the Sithumina Community Hall in the Kirulapone Mugalan Road.
The three conditions on which the second dose would be anticipated is if the person is over the age of 70, has received a text message by the CMC about the second dose to the phone number they provided on their first vaccination date, and is carrying their National Identification Card (NIC).
It is learnt that the age brackets for the administration of the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine will be lowered depending on the availability of the vaccine.
The country is yet to confirm the procurement of adequate doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to administer the remaining second doses although the Government has stated on multiple occasions that it is engaged in high level discussions with other foreign governments about the matter.
The Epidemiology Unit Immunisation Report as of Saturday (26) shows that 925,242 first doses and 372,868 second doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine have been administered so far.
