18 Sep 2020

By Maheesha Mudugamuwa The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) is planning to seek reimbursement of the losses incurred due to last month’s power cuts from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), as per instructions given by Minister of Water Supply Vasudeva Nanayakkara. The NWSDB estimated it spent Rs. 6.78 million to distribute water by using generators during the power cuts, and due to the inability to provide the supply, it additionally incurred around Rs. 23 million during the same period. Moreover, it also spent Rs. 300,000 to distribute water via water bowsers. In the meantime, the NWSDB also focused on generating electricity by using the generators at water purifying centres that came under it. When contacted by The Morning, NWSDB Board Member Eng. T.M.R.P. Thennakoon said the decision is yet to be communicated to the CEB.
